Theory of verse

The attention of readers is proposed to the book of an outstanding linguist and literary critic, academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences V.M. Zhirmunsky, dedicated to poetics and, in particular, theory and history of verse. The book contains the classical works of V. M. Zhirmunsky according to the poem: “Introduction to the metric: the theory of the verse”, “Rhyme, its history and theory” and “The composition of lyrical poems”. These works arose from the course of theoretical poetics, which the author read in the 1920s in various philological and art higher educational institutions. They systematically set out and study the fundamental theoretical foundations and trace the main historical patterns of the poetry and the development of rhyme, a unified, consistent theory of verse is created. The book also contains articles about the versification of V.V. Mayakovsky and about rhythmic prose.
