At the beginning of the 20th century, the theater underwent serious changes: a new profession - director was approved, a new understanding of the metaphorical space of performances came, and the science of the theater was formed in parallel. Scattered circles and associations of writing people about the theater demanded institutionalization, and in 1921, on the basis of the State Institute of Theater Science, the theater section of the Russian Academy of Artistic Sciences was organized.
