In the center of the book is the work of I. S. Turgenev, which is represented by the most famous works of the writer: novels, stories, articles of the 1850s - early 1860s - "Hamlet and Don Quixote", "Rudin", "Asya", "Asya", "Asya" "," Noble Nest "," On the eve "," Fathers and Children ".
The reader is offered a new context of understanding already familiar and largely stereotypically represented by Turgenev’s texts, which is associated with their reading in the light of the Faustow code.
This approach is due to the deep and constant interest of Turgenev to "Faust" I.-V. Goethe, first of all, to his artistic anthropology and philosophical ideas, expressed figuratively, outside the systems and theoretical constructions, which impressed the Russian writer. The book shows that topics, motives, plot lines and situations dating back to both parts of Faust find their organic and sometimes polemic expression among Turgenev, and the Faust type of the hero most fully corresponds to the essence of the modern man, whom Turgenev always sought to understand
