The album includes more than a hundred works that reflected the military experience of three artists - E.O. Marttila, P.I. Afonin and S.F. Babkov. Their distinctive feature is a purely personal view of the authors, young people with art education, who found themselves in the center of grandiose events that unfolded on the Eastern Front, a look, free from official tasks and requirements of state propaganda. A special place in the publication is occupied by the sketch of the young combatant E. O. Marttila and made on their basis in the post -war years of autolithography and engravings. The work of the sapper P.I. Afonin and the gunner S.F. Babkov is represented by portraits and plots from soldier’s life, mainly made at the front and in hospitals. The artists managed to create a whole gallery of vivid images of their contemporaries, their work helps to imagine and feel the depth of trials that have fallen to the share of the military generation. More than half of the works are published for the first time
