The study is devoted to the identification of the features of the synthesis of the verbal and visual principles in the artistic thinking of the Russian poets of the late XVIII - first third of the XIX century, to determine the mechanisms of embedding visual elements into a verbal artistic image. The monograph reveals the problem of the tradition and innovation of Russian literature in the aspect of the assimilation of the experience of painting, the problem of the interaction of the narrative and descriptive principles in the verbal artistic image is studied. System analysis of the interaction of the verbal and visual in the poetry of a literary work made it possible to reveal the features of the artistic imagery of G.R. Derzhavina, K.N. Batyushkova, A.S. Griboedova, A.S. Pushkin, M.Yu. Lermontov, as well as a number of other poets of the frontier of the XVIII-XIX centuries. The study is aimed at identifying the tradition and innovation of Russian literature of the late XVIII - first third of the XIX century in the aspect of visualization of the artistic image.
