The interpretation of the two most famous and mysterious paintings by the Venetian painter Georgeon: “Thunderstorm” and “Three Philosophers” is the task that several generations of researchers tried to solve. In the book of Salvatore Settis, repeatedly reprinted and first published in Russian, the author critically analyzes the existing scientific approaches that reflect key methodological turns and conflicts in history of the 20th century. Settis carefully works with historical sources that help to make an idea of the political context of the era in which Georgon and his customers lived, about the circumstances of the public and private life of Venice at the beginning of the 16th century, influenced the stylistic innovation of the artist. Having examined various versions of the interpretation of the “thunderstorms”, setis offers its own original solution to the picture, taking into account all the details of this creative “puzzle”. Salvatore Settis is an Italian art critic, archaeologist and philologist, president of the Louvre Scientific Council, former head of the research institute of Getty and the highest normal school in Pisa
