The purpose of this book, written by the outstanding Soviet mathematician A.Ya. Khinchin on the basis of the course he read at the Moscow State University, is to arouse a purely mathematical interest in the main and most general problems of the theory of probability, to show the possibilities laid down in these problems. At the same time, the author sought to emphasize that the theory of probability has a holistic method, deeply related to the methods of the theory of functions, and therefore most of the ideas of mathematical analysis finds deep and fruitful use in the theory of probabilities.
The book will be useful for mathematics, teachers, scientists who use probabilistic methods and models in various fields of science, as well as everyone who is interested in issues of probability theory
