"The book is dedicated to the history of the architecture of the Renaissance in Italy. The examples of the projects and buildings of Italian masters of the XV-XVI centuries study issues such as the role of ancient heritage in architectural thought and practice of that time, the image of the temple, and the idea of the structure of a private house and public space. The book considers the legacy of the theoretical thought of the Italian Renaissance, in particular, the works of Leonabattist Alberti, Antonio Averlino (Filaret), Francesco di Giorgio Martini, Leonardo da Vinci, Pietro Kataneo, Andrea Palladio, Vincenzo Damzzi. The author pays much attention to not only implemented buildings, but also unfulfilled projects, as well as architectural fantasies, in which important ideas that characterize the architecture of that era have found expression.
The architectural heritage is considered in a wide historical and cultural context of the Italian Renaissance, as well as in conjunction with other types of art, due to which a single picture of the artistic process arises. Attention is paid to the relations of the architect and the customer, who were often united by a common circle of ideas, love for ancient heritage and the desire to revive it in new buildings.
The book analyzes the monuments of architecture of different parts of Italy, in each of which its own traditions, dating back to the Middle Ages, were combined with the innovative decisions of masters who devoted themselves to the study of the architecture of Ancient Rome. "
