The book is dedicated to the history of the perception of ancient statue plastic in modern times. This story is traced in the book on the example of five ancient statues: Apollo Belvedere, Medican Venus, Laocoon and his sons, Farneze Flora, Hercules Farnesa. They remained the most famous and especially highly appreciated, starting from the Renaissance, when they were found, and until the 19th century, when their glory began to fade under the influence of updated ideas about the ancient classics, due to the then achievements of ancient archeology, as well as in -depth aesthetic reflection in the field of philosophy .
The novelty of the approach to the material consists, first of all, in the accounting of the tectonic specifics of the new European perception of ancient sculpture, which allowed the author to identify the fundamental inadequacy of this vision to his subject, which in the imagination of the viewer was subjected to consistent dematerialization and spiritualization. The book discusses the visual interpretations of ancient statues, analyzes a variety of texts written by both scientists and art lovers, many of these texts are first introduced into scientific circulation. The publication is addressed to art critics, historians, culturalists and everyone who is interested in the fate of the ancient artistic heritage in the culture of post -and -and -end Europe
