Popova’s love is one of the most significant representatives of the Russian avant -garde, in her brief life it played a large role in the formation of all the main movements of the Russian avant -garde, from the early experiments of modernism at the beginning of the twentieth century to cubofuturism, from Suprematism to constructivism and production art.
The collection of Kostaki in the Museum of Contemporary Art of the city of Salonika contains about 200 works and archival materials of the artist - a unique in size meeting on a global scale. This outstanding collection, as well as the special role of Popova in all significant events and manifestations of the Russian avant -garde of 1910-1924, encourage the museum to continue the study and spread of its work. More than 200 works by the artist, archival materials from the Museum collection, as well as rare works from private collections will be presented at the exhibition. This is the first large -scale show of Popova’s works over the past three decades, which unconditionally makes it an exceptional event in the international art and museum environment.
Painter, a bright representative of the Russian avant-garde, an active experimenter and innovator, an artist, a designer and a bright theater artist, Lyubov Popova studied new forms and phenomena, rethinking them and making a serious contribution to the development of such art movements as Suprematism, Cubism , cubofuturism and constructivism. Popova was a fan of Malevich’s ideas and was seriously fond of Suprematism, was a member of the Supremus group. Her work as an artist-player of performances in the style of constructivism “Gentician cuckold” Fernan Krommelinka (1922) and “Earth” Sergei Tretyakov according to the drama M. Martin “Night” (1923) (productions of Vsevolod Meyerhold) left an important trace in the theatrical artistic heritage of the avant-garde of the avant-garde
