The monograph is dedicated to the work of V.S. Makanin - one of the brightest prose writers of the second half of the XX - the beginning of the 21st century. Theoretical issues related to the evolution of the study of the discourse of the author and author"s consciousness in Russian literary criticism are considered. The main attention is paid to the identification and characterization of subjective forms of expression of authorial consciousness in the prose of V.S. Makanin of the 1970-1980s, the study of the plot-composite forms of expression of the author’s consciousness in the aspect of the synthesis of literature and various types of arts, analyzing the synthesis of subjective and extra-subject forms in its prose as a way of expression of author"s consciousness. As plot elements connecting the object and subject, landscape and portrait are distinguished. In the book, the work of V.S. Makanin is considered in the context of world culture. The connection of the works of the writer with porealism and postmodernism, with mythology and folklore as the most important sources of modern artistic consciousness, was also displayed.
