"History of foreign literature" is one of the obligatory disciplines of the humanitarian cycle studied in higher educational institutions. The purpose of the discipline is to form among future philologists and journalists (as well as historians and culturalists) the idea of the main stages of the history of Western European literature of the XVII -XVIII centuries. and the first third of the 19th century, the development of aesthetic thought, the masterpieces of world literature, to show the evolution of artistic genres and genre forms, to reveal the relationship of literature with the social life of the nation, to identify the continuity of literary traditions, to reveal the significance of the creative heritage of outstanding writers, poets and playwrights in the formation of national self -awareness of that other people.
