The culture of the Silver Age was extremely heterogeneous: esoteric mysticism coexisted with the latest scientific achievements, and sophisticated eroticism with the cult of physical labor. However, for all these diverse phenomena there were one connecting thread: all dreams and aspirations were aimed at overcoming the laws of nature, at the implementation of utopia, expanding human capabilities and creating the highest race - possibly immortal. The abolition of death - with or without God, formed the basis of one of the most important myths of salvation during this period. This desire, expressed in the ideas of Vladimir Solovyov, Nikolai Fedorov and in the updated concepts of Gnosticism, brought such different writers as Maxim Gorky, Alexander Blok, Fedor Sologub, Nikolai Ognev and Nikolai Zabolotsky in a single space of the final victory over death.
