What could be more fascinating for an ordinary person about the relativity of space and time, the four -dimensional world, heavenly mechanics, equations and gigantic numbers? The answer is obvious - a huge mass of topics. But not when the narrator is the famous popularizer of science Yakov Isidorovich Perelman. And here is what the scientist himself wrote in the preface to the first edition of the book that glorified him: “In search of means to revitalize in wide circles of interest in mathematics, I had the idea to collect a number of works interpreting mathematical topics in a fictionalist or semi -ballet and invite them to the reader with the corresponding comments. The number of such works, of course, is very limited. This explains the modest size of this collection ... It can be hoped that this small collection will promp the other readers to more serious thoughts and will prompt the systematic familiarization with one or another section of mathematics. This collection is the first experience of this kind known to me. ” For a wide range of readers
