The Platov International Airport is the first airport complex in the history of modern Russia, which was elevated literally from scratch in a clean field. It is located 29 kilometers from Rostov-on-Don, the process of moving from the site of the old complex to another has no analogues in Russia. The construction of the objects of the investment part under the beginning of the regional airport holding began in mid-2015, and the opening took place in December 2017. The dynamics of the rate of construction was due to the preparation of the city for the 2018 World Cup. The airport owes its name to the chieftain of the Don Cossack army, Matvey Ivanovich Platov, known for his courage during the command of Cossack troops in the battle under the Provisish-Elau during the Patriotic War of 1812. The architectural project of the passenger terminal of the airport was carried out by the British Bureau Twelve Architects & Masterplanners. The terminal building sets the nature of the development of nearby territories and objects: the station area with an artificial reservoir and a unique park zone, as well as a cargo terminal, administrative and industrial buildings. The possibility of expansion is laid down not only in the terminal building-in the future it is planned to place the second parallel runway
