Pina Bausch is the legend of the dance theater. For four decades, she translated life - joy, fear, love, doubt, pain - on the language of modern dance, rethinking all aspects of choreography and theater. She abandoned linear dramaturgy, the usual working routine, classic decorations and costumes and began to ask the troupe questions that each dancer answered with his body. “I am not interested in how people move, but what drives them,” she said.
How did the art of Pina Baush change? Who was the dance cage team and how did the rehearsals go? What can Bausch"s productions about the state of German-and not only-society of the 1970-2000s? The sociologist, dance theorist and professor of Hamburg University Gabriele Klein studied the work of the choreographer from all sides and plunged him into a cultural, historical and socio-political context. And, most importantly, she showed how to look at the dance in a new way and understand it.
“The Pino Bausch danceant: the art of translation” is the first book of the publishing series of the International Festival of Modern Choreography CONTEXT. Diana Vishneva, dedicated to the research of modern choreography, theory and history of dance. The book was published in collaboration with Individuum
