The book includes the most famous stories by A.P. Chekhova: Kashtanka, Hameleon, Vanka, Man in the Case, Chamber No. 6, Lady with the Dog and others, the study of which is provided for by the school program.

Maxim Gorky wrote: “No one understood as clearly and subtly as Anton Chekhov, the tragedy of the little things of life, no one before him knew how to give people a shameful and dreary picture of their life in the dull chaos of the philistine everyday life so mercilessly.”
