This work can rightly be called the introduction into the methodology of sound research. Michelle Shion is a theorist of cinema and sound, a follower of the composer Pierre Sheffer, one of the first researchers of the sound texture in the cinema. He owns a number of the most important works about Kubrick, Linche and Tati. The subject of this book is not music, not the soundtracks of films or other forms of isolation of the audial, but the sound as such. Shion sequentially analyzes different approaches to the study of sound, therefore, acoustics, linguistics, psychology, art history, phenomenology are equally in the focus of its attention. The work contains a lot of original conclusions, often formed in a polemic with other researchers. The extensive erudition of the author, interest in modern technologies and a special gift of attentive listening attract the attention of readers who are interested in harmony and noise that are interested in this book
