It is generally accepted that Pushkin devoted his life to the struggle for freedom. One of the turning events of his political biography is the worldview crisis of the Southern link. Most Pushkinists believe that the cause of the crisis was experiences about the onset of the Russian reaction and defeat of the European revolutions, and his apogee was the tragic poem "Sower" (1823), where the poet accuses the “peaceful peoples” of the absence of their need for freedom. The crisis did not shook Pushkin’s liberal beliefs, and after the defeat of the Decembrists, he continued their job alone until he was struck by the Dantes bullet. Nikolai Gudanets convincingly proves that the crisis led the poet to the abandonment of youthful freedom, was caused by other reasons, happened and was overcome earlier by writing the "Sower". This poem was not the result of the poet’s painful thought, but was a cynical craft made with utilitarian goals. To substantiate his bold concept, the author challenges the luminaries of Pushkinism and gives new answers to textbook questions: why the poet was expelled from St. Petersburg, why he was not accepted into secret societies, why he was disappointed in the Greek "dirty people" who rebelled against Ottoman rule Why is the draft allegedly penetrated by the Christian spirit of the “Sower” is adjacent to the first Masonic notebook with a letter to F.F. Wigel, where it is screeched jokes and recommendations of a homoerotic nature with religious blasphemy, why did not Pushkin decide to petition the king’s fate to soften the participation of the Decembrist friends? The book invites to a new reading of the biography and work of the founder of the modern Russian language and culture and is intended for a wide range of readers
