The catalog presents the works of the Russian School of Painting of the XIX century, created by artists, whose authorship is undoubtedly or supposed. The publication did not include artists who received education outside the Russian Empire. The works of Russian artists of the 19th century, the authorship of which is not established, will be devoted to a separate volume. Most of the works published in this catalog are stored in the department of the history of Russian culture of the State Hermitage. The basis of this picturesque fund is the paintings from the collection of the historical department of the State Russian Museum, which entered the Hermitage in 1941.
In the constant exposition of the Hermitage, only a small part of the paintings presented in the catalog is shown, the overwhelming number of works from this collection is stored in the museum funds. Most of the work included in this publication is published or carried out for the first time. Many of them received new attributions and dating, which was reflected in the catalog.
The book is addressed to both specialists and all those interested in visual arts
