The holy story - the type of calendar prose that arose on a folklore basis - came into the view of researchers relatively recently. The monograph by Elena Dushechkina is the first and most significant experience in studying this phenomenon in domestic literary criticism. The author tells the history of the emergence and formation of the genre of the holy story in Russia, tracing his fate for three centuries - from the 18th century to the present. On the vast material, which includes archival notes of folklore texts and literary works printed in Russian periodicals of the XVIII-XX centuries, Elena Duskina reveals the artistic nature of the genre and distinguishes the characteristic main topics. As an appendix to the book, the reader proposes a selection of holy stories compiled by the author of the monograph and including the texts that originally appeared in Russian magazines and collections of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries.
