The first volume of the four -volume publishing project of the museum "Moscow House of Photography" "Russia. The twentieth century in photographs" represents the chronicle of the life of the Russian Empire from 1900 to 1917. Here is the First World War and the Stocks of 1905, the arrest of the royal family and the first "Russian seasons" in Paris, the artists of the Moscow Art Theater and the poets of the Silver Age, the excommunication of Leo Tolstoy from the Church and the three hundredth anniversary of the Romanov House, the daily life and portraits of the peasants, Nikolai II, Lenin, Lenin , Stalin, Kerensky, Milyukov ... This visual reconstruction was compiled on the material of more than forty archives of the Russian Federation, including: Museum "Moscow House of Photography", State Archive of the Russian Federation, Russian State Library, Russian Geographical Society, Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Ethnographic Museum, Cinema Museum and many others. The catalog includes pictures of Karl Bull, Nikolai Vesesky, Maxim Dmitriev, Sergey Korsakov, Sherera and Nabgoltz, Yakov Steinberg. All of them documented the daily life of St. Petersburg and Moscow and the provinces, luxury and poverty, created ceremonial portraits of persons of the era and "reports" from the places of military operations. "Russia, what it really was" - so determines in the preface the leitmotif of the book S.V. Mironenko, Director of the State Archive of the Russian Federation. The project "Russia.
