Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin (1855-1888), a Russian writer, poet and art critic, a pleasant valley (Donetsk region, Ukraine), in a noble family, was born in the estate. A huge impact on the boy, on his health and perception, had the fact that his mother left his family when he was five years old. For some time he lived with his father, but then his mother still took him to her and identified him in a gymnasium in St. Petersburg.
Having graduated from the gymnasium, the young man entered the Mining Institute. However, he was more interested in literature. He printed essays and art articles.
In 1877, when Russia declared war on Turkey, Garshin signed up as a volunteer in the army. After he was wounded, he resigned and completely devoted himself to literary activity. He published the stories "Four days" (1877), "coward" (1877), "from the memoirs of ordinary Ivanov" (1877), in which he reflected his impressions of the war. His works were always inherent in a sharpened sense of social injustice, in them Garshin preached the idea of serving the people. The story "Artists" (1879) reflected the writer"s thoughts on the purpose of literary creativity. His best works - the stories "Red Flower" (1883), "Signal" (1887), the children"s fairy tale "Frog -Traveler" (1887), etc. Garshin created a few years before the tragic death. In the spring of 1888, he graduated from suicide.
The writer is buried in St. Petersburg
