Pavel Eliseevich Shchegolev (1877-1931) - one of the largest Pushkinists of the early twentieth century. Thanks to him, Pushkinism has become a full -fledged science and one of the most important departments of Russian literary criticism. In the life and work of the great poet Shchegolev, many previously little -studied pages have been examined and opened. So, the scientist first raises the topic "Poet and Secret Societies". In one of his works, Shchegolev publishes evidence that reveals the connection of the Green Lamp society, which Pushkin was a member in his original St. Petersburg period, with the Decembrist Union of Blagificate. In another work, he concerns the question of the poet"s membership in the Chisinau Masonic box "Ovid". Shchegolev’s famous book “The Duel and the Death of Pushkin” was the most thorough and whole study on this topic, the conclusions of which were starting for all subsequent Pushkin Studies.
