The book is dedicated to the topic of private collections in the collection of the oldest art museum of Russia - the Museum of the Imperial Academy of Arts, which was founded by I.I. Shuvalov, presenting his collection in 1758. Despite the state status of the Academy itself, its collection from the second half of the 18th century until the beginning of the 20th century, it was precisely private collections. The study considers the history of the appearance in its walls as rather large meetings G.V. Orlov, V.V. Musina-Pushkin-Brusos, N.A. Kushelev-Bisborodko, and individual gifts of collections, diplomats, honorary members of the Imperial Academy of Arts. An interesting page in the history of the educational institution is the gifts of empresses and emperors, presidents of the Academy of Arts and its professors. In the selection of illustrative material, the emphasis is at a collection of painting, sculptures, graphics and decorative art of Europe and Russia of the XVI-XIX centuries of the Research Institute at the Russian Academy of Arts, as well as the State Hermitage and the State Russian Museum
