Fashion and rockers, skinheads, designer drugs, fake refugees and guys in sweatshirts ... Each era has its own moral panic. It was thanks to the classical work of Stanley Cohen, first published in the early 1970s and since then repeatedly processed, the term "moral panic" has become wide use. This outstanding study reveals, as the media and often, those who prefer one or another circumstance or a group to a threat to public values and interests. Exposing the screaming headlines of the media, Cohen demonstrates how these processes lead to the marginalization of such groups and their denigration in folk representations, complicating the rational discussion of social problems. Moreover, the author claims that moral panic allows you to see the line of fault that penetrate society and the power relations in it.
