The book traces the history of Polish representations from the turn of the X and XI centuries up to the present. The author, in accordance with the latest areas of world theater studies, understands this type of art performatically - as a public event, which depends as much on its creators as on the public, which it collects over and over again. The book covers not only stage activities in the strict sense of the word, but also the ceremony, manifestation, anniversaries, spectacles and rituals. There are five parallel stories - about the theater of holidays, the theater of transformation, the theater of power, the National Theater and the “Cultural City Theater” - are formed in an interesting story about Polish culture with a special emphasis on its spectacular aspects.
