Zhang Datsyan (1899-1983) at birth received the name Zheng-Tsuan (or just Zuan), subsequently changed it to Yuan and took the nickname of Jiaan. He used his second name, Datsian as a signature. A native of the Nayjiang district of the province of Sichuan, Zhang Datsyan was the eighth brother of Zhang Shanji. Since childhood, I learned to draw from my mother, older sisters and brothers. In 1917, Datsyan, together with his brother Shanjza, went to Kyoto to study weaving and dyeing. Two years later, he returned to China and stopped in Shanghai, where he entered his studies to Zen Si. The mentor taught him literature, calligraphy and painting, transmitting the knowledge gained from his teacher Lee Zhucin. In 1934, Zhang Datsyan took the position of professor at the Faculty of Arts of the State Central University. In 1941, he first visited Mogao caves in Dunhuan along with his students, where he taught them the art of copying. Three years later, he organized an art exhibition of copies of mogao wall paintings, which became a sensational event. In 1949, he went to India to copy the wall painting of Ajanta caves and give lectures. In 1952 he moved to Argentina, from there he moved to Brazil and finally to the USA. In 1976, he settled on the banks of the Shuanxi River, where the Maya Obel was built under his leadership.
Pictures of Zhang Datsynya in the genres of Shonshui ("Mountains and Rivers"), Huanyao ("flowers and birds") and Jenu ("People and objects", image of people) are made with extraordinary skill. He began his creative path with the imitation of Shitao, then discovered the painting of Bad for himself, was inspired by the works of the greatest artists
antiquities: with Zhenya, Van Man, Dong Yuan, Zyu Jany, Ma Yuan and Liang Kai. About Zhang Datsyan and Pu, they said this: "In the south of Zhang, in the north of Pu". In the late period of his work, he began to draw with colored mascara, connecting the techniques for drawing out the contours, hatching and shading. He was not afraid to create something new on the basis of a traditional Chinese landscape, and this glorified it throughout the world. In addition, Zhang Datsyan was a talented calligrator, sometimes he was engaged in carving seals, gathered beautiful collections
