The book is dedicated to the life and work of Ivan Alexandrovich Tachalov, a bright representative of photography in Tver at the beginning of the 20th century, and introduces previously unknown information from his biography. The author of the book, Victoria Burmistrova-Tachalova (great-grandson of the Tver photographer), for the first time attempted to collect the creative heritage of the photomaster.
The publication is illustrated by rare, sometimes unique postcards and photographs from the author’s personal collection, museum funds and private assemblies. The ancient pictures created by I. A. Tachalov are supplemented by comments, from which the reader learns about interesting places in the city, relevant events and residents of that time.
The publication first contains a complete collection of ancient cards with types of Tver and its environs printed from the photographs of I. A. Tachalov (from the author’s personal collection) On the modern map of Tver, included in the book, the places of shooting of each species picture are indicated. The reader, as if along an excursion route, can take a walk around the city of that time with the photographer and look at Tver through the lens of his camera. The publication is supplemented by a catalog of postcards indicating information about the years of publication and their publishers.
