The monograph examines the state of affairs in the gymnasium of the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries relating to the organization of the relationship between teachers and gymnasium students. Documents of gymnasiums operating on the territory of the Russian Empire, in particular in the Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Kharkov and Odessa training districts, were analyzed.
The author refutes the point of view on the gymnasium as a "Mushtra and Cutter school", and the progressive role of the gymnasium in the formation of educated, intelligent, educated citizens of the country is affirmed. On numerous unpublished materials of archives (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kyiv, Kharkov, Odessa and Simferopol), the complex of official pedagogical documents and theoretical works of teachers shows the nature of the organization of intrahymnasical relationships.
