The book combines the work of the founder of Russian defectology V.P. Kashchenko. In his studies, the author placed a special emphasis on the need to study the child, if possible, in the entirety of his characteristics and features. This study was based on the achievements of modern sciences, mainly psychology and physiology. A great responsibility in such a study falls on both the doctor and the teacher. The accuracy of making the diagnosis, the accuracy of choosing the necessary means and measures, clarity in the representation of the predicted future depends on their aggregate output. This was followed by attention to the methodological side of the educational process, in which it is not a child should adapt to the education system and the learning program, but they should adapt to the child. Kashchenko invariably insisted that he should always remember the child’s needs for joy, which means that his stay at school should be made interesting, causing exalted feelings. Kashchenko launched a wide propaganda in the country"s scientific foundations of education and training "exceptional children". Kashchenko’s research has laid the foundations for the formation and education of children with developmental disadvantages and are relevant for the practice of a modern school
