The book became the result of a number of interdisciplinary research, united by the concept of "own logic of cities", which offers an alternative to the established tradition to consider the city mainly as a mirror of social processes. "Own logic of cities" is an approach that demonstrates how it is possible to focus on the originality and heterogeneity of individual cities in order to establish specific patterns associated with the differences of one city from another, based on their own "logic" of each of them. The question of theoretical tools that allow us to describe such patterns becomes the subject of a critical discussion in the book. In particular, the authors discuss and use such concepts as the “city gabitus", "imaginary city", city "knowledge landscapes", etc. Particular attention in this regard is paid to the comparative perspective and various types of relations between cities. A number of European cities are compared as examples in the book - such as Berlin and Ien, Frankfurt and Hamburg, Sheffield and Manchester. African cities are separately considered from the point of view of their "own logic".
