Umberto Eco is the famous Italian writer, author of world bestsellers "Name of Rosa" and "Pendulum Foucault", laureate of the largest literary awards, the founder of scientific and art magazines, a specialist in semiotics, a cultural historian. His works are translated into forty languages. Essays included in this book were born from the report "Problem of an open work", read at the XII International Philosophical Congress in 1958. In 1962, they appeared under the heading of the Open Work and were supplemented by a thorough study on Joyce"s poetics, where the author was complemented by the author I tried to trace the development of this artist.
