The publication presents 101 Russian artistic self -organization - from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok.
The book Open Systems. Experiments of artistic self -organization in Russia. 2000–2020 ” - the result of a long -term research project initiated by the scientific department of the Garage Museum in 2015. The project began with the desire to replenish the archive of the museum with relevant and rapidly disappearing evidence of the artistic process of the 2000-2010s. The focus of attention became self -organization - the associations of artists and curators who independently realize their artistic ideas.
Exhibition Open Systems. Experiments of artistic self -organization in Russia. 2000–2015 ”, held at the museum in 2015, presented the collected materials and served as the beginning of the trip of the project of the project in the cities of Russia in order to deeper study of self -organization, additional collection of documents, as well as conducting exhibitions representing the non -industrial art environment.
After three years of field work and exhibitions in eight cities of Russia, it was decided to stop and analyze the done: the heroes of the book were 101 initiative from all over the country. The publication contains questionnaire information about self -organization, photographs and statements of the participants in these associations, in order, as far as possible, to give an idea of the variety of votes of modern Russian art.
Initiatives are grouped in the cities in which they are located, inside these sections - in the order of occurrence.
The book also includes articles considering self-organization from different aspects: the introduction of Sasha Obukhova, the initiator of the project, a description of the used methodology of Antonina Trubitsyna, the editor-compiler of the publication, theoretical reflections on the nature of the artist Ruslannin, the sociological view of the researcher Margarita Kuleva and reflection of the curator Elena Ishchenko on the topic of self -intending.
The publication is equipped with a reference apparatus, a name pointer and a keyword system. Detailed information about each initiative (chronicle of events and project documentation) is available in the electronic catalog of the network of archives of Russian art.
