Civilized humanity carefully and with great benefit read the novels by F. M. Dostoevsky, several times translated his works into more than 200 languages of the peoples of the world, and recently has been more interested in his manuscripts that contain materials, for various reasons not published in books - due to censorship and other reasons. The huge philosophical potential of the writer"s creative heritage makes us delve into the meaning of his creative and diary entries deeper.
The core of Dostoevsky"s manuscript heritage is his notebooks. Carelessly treating his other papers, he carefully kept “written books”, starting a new work, returned to old records, re -read and used previous developments. The uniqueness of this material is not only in preserving the process of birth of a new artistic form in the pristine form, but also in the methods of the records that the writer used. Having passed in his youth a thorough course of drawing and calligraphy of the Main Engineering School, Dostoevsky widely used these means of formulating ideas in the process of literary work. Thousands of portrait and architectural drawings, calligraphically executed names of world history figures fill the pages of his notebooks, coexisting in a single semantic space of the page with barely readable, bead, abundant reductions, verbal text of his draft. Each of this kind of compositions matters, inseparable from the totality of all, graphic and verbal, elements adjacent to the page. And this amazing world has not yet known the reader, who, in all previous publications of Dostoevsky"s manuscripts, saw only a emasculated, torn from the context of a verbal-graphic composition, unnaturally smeared to the format of the finished text of the draft.
However, Dostoevsky’s two -hundredth anniversary forces us to get rid of archaic approaches in the writer"s black records, try to combine the easy readability of draft records transferred to the printed text format, and the original type of manuscript filled out by the writer"s withdrawal, punctuation marks, crossing out and crossing lines, marking "NB", calligraphic records and various kinds of drawings made by a pen or pencil. This kind of publication is the diplomatic transcription of the four notebooks of Dostoevsky, filled during the period of work on the Roman "Demons" (1869-1872), we offer a reader who can easily plunge into the creative process of the writer. The new textological processing made it possible to save the texts of notebooks from many errors contained in previous editions of these manuscripts. The publication is accompanied by an introductory article and scientific commentary
