Dear reader, in your hands an art album dedicated to the traditional Nizhny Novgorod crafts. This is a joint project of the Publishing House of the Decum and the Nizhny Novgorod State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve (NGIAMZ) You will learn what role in the development of the crafts played the ancient Russian monasteries, why the house carving was called the ship, whether it was true that lace was weaving not only from soft silk, but also from durable wire, and why the iron caskets were called the Persian. For hundreds of years, crafts have been an integral part of folk life: they fed, shod and dressed inhabitants of villages and cities. One third of all folk art crafts of Russia is concentrated on Nizhny Novgorod land. Starting to engage in craft because of the need, the local craftsmen treated their work with their souls, the elders conveyed the secrets of production, and young people honored traditions. Our ancestors created ordinary household items, and today we consider them in museums as works of art. The embroidered old towels, miraculously preserved architectural tiles, ruddy nesting dolls in painted scarves - all these are spiritual and cultural traditions of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the study of which will turn into a fascinating process thanks to bright illustrations
