Even then, he behaved unusually and dressed strangely, and his name began to grow in stories and legends. Wilde shone with a young man in London secular society, even made a coup in fashion. The “young Irish wit” struck everyone, appearing in the evenings in a cloak, beret with Lily or sunflower in his hand.
He quickly established himself not only as a poet (in 1881 he came out the first collection of poems), but also as a brilliant wit and a wonderful lecturer, his bright figure and catchy phrases attracted reporters and glorified him in America and France.
