The publication was prepared for the exhibition "NECKE. The miniature sculpture of Japan from private collections" [July 22 - October 16, 2016] and includes 185 works of Japanese carriers. NECKE is a small keychain used in the XVII -XIX centuries in Japan for attaching the necessary little things on the belt: a kitty for tobacco or drug boxes. Figures carved from wood or ivory in the form of animals, mythical creatures, funny characters of the city fair or gods granting good luck, in the 18th century, from purely utilitarian objects turned into real works of art that decorated the costumes of samurai and wealthy citizens. Starting from the second half of the 19th century, NECKE began to collect in Europe, and now this hobby unites many collectors around the world. The catalog presents the works of the famous cutters: tomotada, Masanao, Okatomo, Tametak, Tadatosi, Mitsuhiro, Kayghekusai, Otoman and many others.
The catalog is intended for both specialists and a wide range of readers interested in Japanese art
