The museum of icons in the city of Relenghausen, Germany, founded in 1956, has the largest collection of art of art of the Eastern Church outside the Orthodox states. More than a thousand icons, book miniatures, wood and metal products, sewing from Russia, Greece, Balkan countries give a complete picture of the variety of topics and stylistic development of icon painting and the applied art of the Christian East.
The museum maintains close ties with scientists and museum workers both in Germany and abroad, is the leading Western center of study of icon painting and the spite of the pilgrimage of tourists from all countries of the world.
A real book, published in German and Russian, is the most complete presentation of the collection of icons located in Revlinghausen, as well as the first publication about the museum in Russian.
The authors and publishers hope that the release of the voluminous album-catalog of the museum, firstly, will serve as a new impulse for the experts to study this wonderful meeting, and secondly, will introduce the general public with the masterpieces of icon painting and thereby allow the museum of icons in Relenghausen to make many new friends
