Turgenev’s story "Mumu" is included in the school program in literature in grade 5. Since childhood, we all remember how we sobbed over the fate of the dog, innocently and cruelly destroyed on the orders of the tyranny, capricious old lady. And in most cases, in the memory of former children, this story remains a work on a cruel attitude towards our smaller brothers. Meanwhile, this is not at all the case. You can not impoverish the problems and ideological content of this excellent story, which bears a pronounced anti -consuming orientation. I always tell the fifth graders that the image of the Baryni Turgenev wrote off his own mother - a cruel and fierce serf - Varvara Petrovna Lutovinova. Then - about the fact that she had a devoted serf peasant Andrei, by nature endowed with a powerful body, unprecedented physical strength, but offended from the birth of Nemota: he only knew how to mumble. When it becomes clear that the plot of the story is based on real events, the children suddenly understand that the main character is not a dog, but a warrior-none-breaker, who, like Gerasim, drowned the unfortunate Mumu. But the finals of the stories are different: the prototype Gerasima, until the end of his life, correctly served his lady and carried her in his arms in the fun of visiting guests. And Gerasim, despite the terrible punishment for unauthorized care of the landowner, went to the village. This is not a story about a poor dog. This is a deeply tragic narrative of awakening in an unfortunate, limp, powerful person of self -esteem. Yes, at the cost of such a terrible shock: when he killed everything he loved with his own hands. He killed himself. And through the pain suddenly, for the first time felt how the world of serfdom was unfairly arranged
