Lan in learning painting with Shen Zhou, who was inspired by the work of the great masters of the Tang, Song and Yuan eras, and especially bowed to the work of Juan Gunwan. The smooth and elegant manner of the teacher also influenced the style of the doe - smooth and soft, but you can trace the randomness of the lines. In the declining of years, his artistic manner became more stringent, not inferior in the visualization of the works of such large masters of the Ming era as Wen Zhenmin and Shen Zhou.
