The traditional understanding of the modern, passing from the 1920s to the post-war era, has been in a state of crisis for quite some time. This is especially striking in areas such as urban planning, architecture and design. Theorists and practices either desperately protect the existing concept as having great historical significance and urge it to support and develop it, or ignore it as a short-lived and lost relevance, proposing to replace it with something else and new. The researcher and practicing architect Wittorio Maniago Lampunyani offers the third option: we will try to transform our own understanding of our time, continuing to follow the original social and humanistic ambitions that are behind this definition, but at the same time, we will largely revise its ideological, political, technical, functional, economic , environmental and aesthetic prerequisites. Our world, which continues to shake on wars, also suffers from human recklessness and greed. Capitalism requires us to turn everything into goods, which leads to overproduction and excessive consumption, and we simultaneously become the victims and accomplices of this misfortune. The consumer attitude to everything leads to new forms of operation and exacerbates the inequality in different parts of the world. Based on these global problems, the author offers a new approach to design and design, which is determined by the desire for durability. This approach rejects frivolous waste of resources and thoughtless copying of templates. Lampulini offers an alternative to modern fixation on entertainment, insane and in this case even harmful, and requires to come to restraint, thoroughness and noble simplicity.
