The book presents stories of the birth of seven tombstones and ten busts created for A. M. Golitsyn with such sculptures as F. I. Shubin, F. G. Gordeev, Ya. I. Zashod, J. A. Gudon, B. Kavacheppy, and some others. Correspondence with intermediaries preserved in the customer archive (among whom was the famous French philosopher Denis Didro), as well as with sculptors themselves, allowed to illuminate problems such as the relationship between masters of sculpture with their titled clients, the formation of private art collections, and also trace the penetration processes in the processes of penetration in Russia of fashionable European trends. In parallel with the Golitsyn orders, some works are mentioned in the book, connected with them, which involves the main outline of the story of other famous artists of that time, such as E. M. Falcone, M. A. Collo, J. B. Pigal etc. One of the important results of the study is adjustments made in the attribution of well -known monuments (in their origin, dating, authorship) The narrative is supplemented by colorful paintings of the life and morals of Russia of the XVIII century.
