The book was compiled from the works of the author, published in various magazines and collections in 1985–12018. and dedicated to the development of mathematics in the Russian Empire and in the USSR in the stream of events of the dramatic history of our country.
It includes articles on mathematical research in the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in the 18th century, about the formation of the Moscow Philosophical and Mathematics School, about the outstanding mathematicians of the school P. L. Chebyv, on the mathematical Moscow of the late XIX-the first third of the twentieth century, about the origin and heyday of the Soviet mathematical school - one of the leading mathematical schools of the second half of the twentieth century.
