In the spring morning of 1957, a veteran of photojournalism David Douglas Duncan visited Pablo Picasso, his friend and frequent hero of filming in the house under Cannes. Next to Duncan in his Mercedes Groinka 300 SL "sat" a spare driver - dachshund by Lump. The photographer and the dog were close friends, but the vagabal lifestyle and another dog - a huge jealous Afghan greyhound, lumber, - pretty poisoned his existence in Rome. When on this historical day they arrived at the Picasso"s Owl of California, Lump decided that he had found a paradise on Earth and that he would move here, whether the artist wants it or not.
This is the background of this unusual book describing the affection of Picasso, which he did not have so many. On the day of their first meeting, Picasso immordated Lumpa, depicting him on a plate, but that was only the beginning. On the forty -five paintings created based on the masterpiece of Velazquez "Menina", Picasso replaced the phlegmatic greyhound in the foreground with a careless Lumpa. Today, these historical canvases are the core of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, as the gift of an artist to the city of his youth. Fourteen canvases are reproduced in color on these pages, opposite expressive and touching black and white photographs of Picasso and Lumpa, returning to the circles of their Odyssey the dachshund-stronger, which from the forced commander turned into a smooth-haired icon of contemporary art
