The 20th volume completes the fundamental book series "Library of Literature of Ancient Russia", begun in 1997, prepared in the Pushkin house edited by D. S. Likhachev, L. A. Dmitriev and N. V. Ponyrko.
In the history of the development of the Old Russian written heritage, it became the first, such an extensive publishing series. Due to its volume, strict principles of publication of ancient Russian texts, parallel to their translation into modern Russian, comments "Library of Literature of Ancient Russia" presented almost all the wealth of ancient Russian literature, in its historical development - from the 21st century. Up to this day, including works created throughout the XVIII-XX centuries.
The final volume, the content of which is united by the concept of "Old Russian literature after ancient Russia", includes that complex of literary monuments created in Russia of the XVIII centuries. Up to the present day, which in modern times continued to maintain the dominant style of ancient Russian literature and commitment to its main reasons, plots and genres.
Such a theme of the last volume of the book series is an absolute innovation against the background of existing domestic and foreign publications.
In the 20th volume of "Library", works created throughout the XVIII-XX centuries are presented. In the most diverse layers of Russian society (among peasants, clergy, representatives of the capital"s nobility), and their direct ties with ancient Russian literary traditions are traced. A number of monuments of the life genre were published here (including diaries of the posthumous miracles of the local saint), pilgrimage trips to the Holy Land of various residents of the Russian cape, written in the traditions of ancient Russian “hits, popular works created within the framework of the vision genre, and the monuments of liturgical hymnography.
