The book of Academician Dmitry Vladimirovich Sarabyanov is the first study in our country dedicated to Ivan Puni (1892–1956), one of the masters of the Russian avant -garde. Having left Russia at the end of 1919, he spent most of his life in Germany and France, but already in the early Petersburg/Petrograd period his work was a significant contribution to the development of the latest areas of art of the first quarter of the 20th century. The artist’s works are well known in the West, his personal exhibitions were held in many European countries and in the USA, numerous articles and monographs were written about him. Meanwhile, in Russia, the name of Puni for a long time was known only to specialists, experts in painting, and his work as a whole - as a phenomenon of Russian and European art - remained unexplored. The book of D.V. Sarabyanova replenishes this gap and re -reveals to our readers a creative heritage of a talented master, an Italian by origin, a Frenchman in a passport, Russian in spirit. The publication is addressed to specialists and a wide range of lovers of domestic art of the 20th century
