The book is based on lecture courses, which the author gave at the departments of applied linguistics of the philological faculty of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov and Moscow State Linguistic University. The textbook presents the main directions of applied linguistics-as already established classical disciplines (computer linguistics, machine translation, information-search systems, lexicography, terminating studies and terminography, language teaching methodology, translation theory), as well as the latest specialties that have developed in recent decades, - Cabinet linguistics, political linguistics, linguistic aspects of neurolinguistic programming, theory of influence. Particular attention is paid to research methods developed in each of the applied areas. In many cases, examples of use of applied methods and the results are discussed. At the end of the textbook paragraphs, practical tasks are provided, which allow us to apply the acquired material in a specific problem sphere. A separate chapter of the book discusses the problems of mutual influence of theory and practice in the science of language, as well as the prospects for the development of applied linguistics.
