Intensive interaction is a pedagogical technology developed by Dave Hewett and his colleagues in the UK over the past 30 -35 years. The method is used in working with children and adults with multiple developmental disabilities and pronounced difficulties in communication, including autism.
The authors define the method of intensive interaction as a method of communication and a more joint "residence", presence with people at the trustful stage of development. Intensive interaction is emphasized on the development of the individual’s basic communicative abilities in his own way, including characteristic movements and facial expressions inherent in a particular person, any sound made, his own pace and other features.
A vivid characteristic of the method is in -depth attention to a person and recognition of the learning leading role in interaction, as well as the indispensable joy of joint communication as the goal, process and result of each session. The teacher using the intensive interaction method must master the technology that includes attention skills, expectations, priorities, recognition of any customer behavior as an act of communication.
The technology of intensive interaction involves first of all a change in the communicative behavior of the teacher, and not the traditional pedagogical impact on the student. In addition, the command principle of work is emphasized - the entire environment of a person with violations should master the key principles of the method and use them in everyday interaction.
Intensive interaction can be attributed to environmental approaches - the method is aimed primarily at changing the client’s environment, creating a supportive communicative environment that allows to develop communicative skills.

For professionals - teachers, psychologists, specialists helping professions working with people with pronounced difficulties in communication, with children and adults with severe and multiple developmental disabilities,
for persons that carry out Care - parents, relatives of people with pronounced communicative difficulties, for employees of social services and staff of a long -term stay, social houses.
Interaction with whom?
Initially, intensive interaction developed as a method of working with people with heavy and deep mental retardation and (or) autism, with severe difficulties in communication. However, since 2008, the field of application of the method has been expanded: interaction with people with polysenorous disorders, dementia, the consequences of stroke and brain injuries has also been included.
The method has been developed and used with people:
