The book is dedicated to the centenary of Russian academic archeology, the countdown of which is conducted from the decree on the formation of the Russian Academy of the History of Material Culture in 1919. The series of essays sets out the history of the establishment of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences as the Central Archaeological Institution of Russia, located in its capital.
